This centre aims to energise a meeting space between cultures, where interested citizens can exchange ideas in a perspective of cultural dialogue between the two countries.
The main missions of the Centre are:
the organisation of exhibitions, performances and conferences dedicated to thepromotion of the Portuguese language and culture. ;
the operation of alibraryoffering a reading service on site, internet access and home services.
The importance of theLusophone communities in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, as well as the desire to better promote Portugal to Luxembourgers, Portuguese and Lusodescendants, are also key elements of its mission.
Furthermore, the increasing intensification of cooperation with renowned Luxembourg cultural institutions as well as partnerships with public and private institutions from both countries have allowed for greater visibility and more effective organisation of numerous annual activities. Among the examples:
Multiple exhibitions in collaboration with theMUDAM – Museum of Modern Art, theMNAHA – National Museum of Archaeology, History and Art,theFriends of the Museums of Luxembourg Associationand Portuguese museums;
Opening concert of the Atlântico Festival., in collaboration with thePhilharmonie Luxembourg, for eight consecutive years;
Biennale “De Mains de Maîtres”: for the first time in 2023, a guest of honour country — Portugal — with significant collaboration with theDGArtes ;
Biennale EMOPLUX – European Month of Photography Luxembourg, in collaboration for five consecutive editions;
Portuguese Film Festivalin collaboration with theCinémathèque du Luxembourg, for eight consecutive years.
The main objectives of thePortuguese Cultural Centre in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourgare thepromotion of Portuguese culture, with a focus on thelusophonyand the influence it can have on younger generations, which is the Centre's greatest challenge.
To achieve these objectives, the CCP Camões Luxembourg prioritises the development of activity programmes that meetquality standardsand are representative of the reality and cultural values of Portugal, both from a historical and contemporary perspective.
The Library
The centre has a library of25.60 m², with12 reading placesand anInternet access. It is integrated into the network cataloguing system of the libraries ofCamões I.P.and is currently being catalogued.
At the end of2022, as part of the Camões I.P. library network project,Camões I.P., integrated into theRecovery and Resilience Plan, the process of replacing the Biblionet library softwareBiblionetwith theKohasystem was launched.
The objective for the Portuguese Cultural Centre in Luxembourg was to migrate the database fromBiblionettoKoha, which was only possible if the data was correctly filled according to the criteria defined by the team of librarians at the Camões I.P. headquarters.
To correct the database of our library, we benefited from aone-year grantfrom Camões I.P., thanks to which we were able to recruit a grant holder in September 2023 and carry out the following actions:
All records were analysed by the team of librarians at the headquarters in Lisbon, with a cataloguing training process and daily remote follow-up, which allowed for the correction of731 records ;
InMarch 2024, when the new integrated library management system Camões I.P. was launched online,731 recordsfrom this library were migrated fromBiblionettoKohaand are now visible online;
Since then, the CCP-Luxembourg library has2227 recordsin the systemKOHA. This figure should not be confused with the number of items processed, as journals are counted as one record, just like multi-volume works and duplicate copies;
Unfortunately, the awarded grant ended inAugust 2024and has not been renewed despite the excellent work of the grantee and our efforts. Since September, the former grantee has continued to collaborate with the library on avoluntary ;
The systemKoha, in addition to allowing cataloguing, also provides alending service. Readers must register. During opening hours (9:30 am to 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm), they can register, borrow and return books at CCP-Luxembourg.
